Bioinformatics and Translational Research

I am Sofia, a scientist with a background on evolutionary virology and bioinformatics data analyses. My doctorate degree in virus discovery and evolution was completed at the Charité Institute of Virology in 2021, and awarded by the Freie Universität Berlin. At the BTR team my work includes multiple projects in virus bioinformatics and analytics. Previously, I contributed to Germany’s SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance and led the Viroinformatics team within the Integrated Genomic Surveillance (IGS) project. As of 2026, I am part of the BMFTR-funded “TrophicHealth” consortium led by the University of Ulm, which studies how organic fertilization influences the accumulation of antibiotic resistance and pathogens along the food chain. The project aims to support the development of a One Health perspective in circular agriculture.
